Everyone meet Suzuki! She’s a newcomer to CrossFit having just started training with us only 2 weeks ago! She was introduced by fellow in-house CrossFit enthusiast Corey (check out our recent Spotlight on Corey here). While it’s easy to be intimidated by the image of CrossFit she has found it to be full of team spirit to help each other finish workouts together under the safety of our coaches who watch you every step of the way. She much prefers the environment over training alone to help achieve better results. If you’re in the Tokyo area she recommends sight seeing at Shiba Park.
Name:
Runa Suzuki
Age:
23
Where are you from?
Tokyo, Japan
Occupation:
Professional snowboarder
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
2 weeks
Where did you find this place? What made you decide to start?
I was brought here for a trial by Corey, who was a college classmate of my best friend, and I completely got hooked! I felt that there is no other place where you can move your body this intensely and build stamina like this.
What has been the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?
When I was taught how to do a clean for the first time and was able to do it!
Is there someone you admire or aim to become like? Why?
I want to become like my mother someday! She is the strongest woman I know (even more active than me), taught me what love is, and is someone who always thinks of others before herself.
What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
Death by burpees, which I did on my first day! It is tough, but it is a battle with yourself where you can push yourself to your limits!
Do you have any advice for people who are thinking of starting?
CrossFit has a very intense image, so people who are not confident in their fitness may feel hesitant, but there is really nothing to worry about! Whether you have never trained before or you are an athlete, you can train at your own pace and level. Coaches guide you and you train together with others, so it is a great environment for people who find it hard to stay motivated when training alone. I am not good at pushing myself on my own, so having coaches and others around me working hard brings out my competitive spirit and improves the quality of my training, which really helps me (lol).
Do you have any recommended spots in Tokyo?
Shiba Park
