Kristin hs been doing CrossFit for 6 years now after finding out about it during her time in Kyoto. Through participating she was about to find the motivation to exercise more as well as make friends while getting fitter. She sees the box as not just a place to workout but a home to a wonderful community of which some have become her best friends. If you’re feeling a little nervous about coming in she recommends coming in with a friend. She found this helped eliviate the fear of going it alone during her first steps. Why not celebrate your first wod with a friend by enjoying a nice cold beer at iBrew in Ebisu as Kristin suggests. In moderation of course 😄

USA
Occupation:
High School Science Teacher
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
6 years
Where did you find this place? What made you decide to start?
Right after I first moved to Japan, I started at a CrossFit box in Kyoto. I needed a place that would motivate me to exercise at a more intense level than I could achieve on my own, and I also wanted to make friends.
What has been the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?
The community. I have made some of my best friends in Japan through CrossFit. For me, the CrossFit box is not just a gym; it is a place where I can socialize, laugh, play, and work hard together with others toward a common goal.
Is there someone you admire or aim to become like? Why?
Not really, but I admire all of the women who still make time to work out at the box, even while balancing a full-time job and kids.
What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
Anything with metcon intervals!
Do you have any advice for people who are thinking of starting?
Find a friend and start together! Push and motivate each other. In the beginning, I was too nervous to go to the box alone, but going with a friend made it easy and fun.
Do you have any recommended spots in Tokyo?
iBrew Ebisu, for post-WOD beers (in moderation)!
