Athlete Spotlight: Keita

Keita has been enjoying CrossFit for 2 years as well as our own inhouse program AYA’s Bootcamp (exclusive to Heart and Beauty) for 4 years. He likes that CrossFit can be great as a hobby or a competition to be able to challenge yourself. If you can manage one hour of training a day you’ll be treated to some amazing benefits (naturally nutrition is also a factor). He finds doing both CrossFit and Bootcamp helps increase his performance during Soccer sessions. In your spare time he recommends checking out Ueno if you’re in Tokyo.

Where did you find this place? What made you decide to start?
I started because I was looking for a new type of training to resist the general decline in physical ability that is often talked about.

What has been the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?
I am still developing, but I enjoy it when I achieve the goals I set for myself each month, and when it leads to better results in soccer (7-a-side) and other sports.

Is there someone you admire or aim to become like? Why?
Regardless of athletic ability, I am inspired by all the coaches and members who continue to work consistently toward their goals.

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
All of them are extremely hard and tough, so there is not yet a workout that I can say I like.

Do you have any advice for people who are thinking of starting?
I personally feel that the appeal of CrossFit is that anyone with a desire to improve can continue challenging themselves indefinitely, whether as a hobby or as a competitive sport. If you can control one hour of training a day and the remaining 23 hours of life (mainly diet and rest) according to your goals, I think you will gradually be able to control your body the way you want. With the push from coaches and the sense of unity with teammates, you gain a level of accomplishment and fulfillment that exceeds the calories actually burned. You do need to be careful about overeating and drinking too much, but to put it modestly, it is highly recommended training.
