Keisuke has been training for close to 1 year now after hearing about us through his boxing. Through participating he became inspired so much that he created a new company inspired by CrossFit! Metspo creates goods for CrossFitters such as Knee Sleeves. He draws lots of inspiration from coach Aya. When he feels the workouts are tough he recalls how even with a broken toe she continued to workout. If you’re in Tokyo feel free to say hello at our box and see what makes the difference. 💪🏻
Name:
Keisuke Tani
Age:
40s
Where are you from?
Yokohama, Japan
Occupation:
Operating a CrossFit-focused e-commerce site (METASPO)
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
20 months
Where did you find this place? What made you decide to start?
I was recommended by a senior and went to a box. Even though it looked extremely tough, everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves for some reason. I thought, “This is it,” and started right away!
What has been the most enjoyable thing about doing CrossFit?
WODs (especially the Games Open) are truly brutal, but the sense of fulfillment afterward feels better than any other sport. As a result, I came to love CrossFit so much that I eventually started a company called METASPO, a CrossFit-dedicated e-commerce site. I now import CrossFit gear from overseas and develop CrossFit-specific knee sleeves, and my work has become entirely related to CrossFit.
Is there someone you admire or aim to become like? Why?
AYA. She is often called a tough drill instructor, but in reality she works harder than anyone else and understands better than anyone the importance of pushing others. That is why, although she is usually very kind, she can become strict when needed. I think that is the true image of a coach. What impressed me most mentally was when she continued to push herself without resting, even while she had a broken leg, saying she could still train her upper body. She is truly cool and my role-model athlete.
What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
All WODs
Do you have any advice for people who are thinking of starting?
Needless to say, it strengthens your body, but even when things get really tough, you can overcome it together with your teammates, which also makes you mentally stronger. It is healthy and also helps with self-development, so there is no reason not to do it! First, just try it out. Once you do, you will understand!!
Do you have any recommended spots in Tokyo?
